Drug Bust


On the 14th of December at approximately 08h26 the Law Enforcement received a report from Myertal, our camera control room regarding a suspious person. On investigation the suspect was nowhere to be found but they found a parcel containing 800 mandrax tablets with a street value of R 32 000. The suspect returned an hour later to collect his parcel and was duly arrested and handed over to Elsies River SAPS. Foot Patrols

The ECID has instituted the use of foot patrols to assist in curbing of minor crimes along the open areas surrounding the stations and the buffers along the Langa and Bonteheuwel railway lines. This exercise will be evaluated over a one month period, where the main focus of the Officers is concentrated during the peak times. Fourteen Arrested

On Friday 3 June 2011 the ECID office received a call from the security officer at Air Liquide, Mr Andrews informing us that 14 people had assaulted a driver and passenger of a cart horse in Gunners Circle and stolen their 2 bags of potatoes and a box of tomatoes and that the 14 people were headed in the direction of Bonteheuwel. Another Successful Drug Raid At The Informal Market

On the 7th April 2011 the 4 ECID Law Enforcement officers together with a Pinelands Law Enforcement officer conducted another raid on the Viking side of the informal market (stand 8). 15 packets of dagga, 10.5 mandrax tablets and 3 used tik lollies were confiscated. The 4 suspects were arrested and handed over to Pinelands SAPS.

ECID Social Responsibility-Feeding Scheme

The ECID has obtained monthly donations of provisions from Premier Foods and Giant Sweets in support of our feeding scheme. We have chosen the SOS Children's Village in Thornton, who then also distribute to the less privileged in Langa and the Church of the Nazarene in Bonteheuwel who have a soup kitchen and a distribution scheme. Dagga Haul At Informal Market

On the 18th March 2011 the ECID Law Enforcement Officers on patrol at the rear of the informal market suspected dagga was being sold from the shacks facing Viking Way. On further investigation 8 large parcels of dagga and 20 packets of dagga were found with a street value of ± R 4 000.00. 2 people were arrested.

PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE WATER BY-LAW
The City of Cape Town has revised its current Water By-law to make it more user-friendly and also to clarify certain issues which could be misinterpreted.
Amongst other things the amended by-law covers the following topics:
• Application and purpose
• Application for the supply of water
• Interference with the water supply system
• Restriction or cutting off of supply
• Metering of water supplied
• Water restrictions and water conservation

Clamping Down On Crime


On the 19th May the Law Enforcement Officers dedicated to the ECID arrested 2 men outside a scrap metal dealer in Epping and confiscated 26 packets of tik, which were handed over to Elsies River SAP and the men were charged for being in possession of narcotics.
